John received his master’s degree in industrial social work from USC in 1988, and since that time has made the workplace the sole focus of his professional practice. He has nearly 30 years of experience as an employee assistance professional, professional coach, mental health practitioner, organizational and management consultant, workplace behavioral health educator and program administrator. John is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Professional Certified Coach, a Certified Employee Assistance Professional, and a Board Certified Diplomate in Clinical Social Work. He is a member of the administrative leadership team for both the Human Resources division and the School of Social Work, and serves on multiple standing committees at USC including the Threat Assessment Team, the Disaster Mental Health Response Team, the Personnel Council, the Employee Relations Committee, the Employee Benefits Advisory Committee, the Medical Leave Review Board, and the Mindful USC Steering Committee. John is a field educator for social work graduate students and has been an adjunct lecturer in the Graduate School of Social Work. In 2013, John was the recipient of the Presidential Award for Staff Achievement.
John is a widowed dad of two teen daughters, both of whom aspire to attend USC. Besides his children, John’s passion is the ocean and, in particular, scuba diving; originally certified to dive in 1977, John is currently training to receive his Dive Master certification.
